Gicumbi District focuses on improving environmental conservation
Mining grounds will be covered
Gicumbi District is now more than ever involved in the environment conservation program as well as fighting against the soil erosion after winning the National reward in this program. Gicumbi district has even got a project to support in this program called LWH (Land and Water Harvest).
According to Jean Chrisostome Nzeyimana who is in charge of agriculture and environment in the district, LWH Project will help in many environmental conservation projects. These projects include making terraces, planting trees in agro forestry program, growing forestry, protecting rivers and wetlands among others.
This LWH project operates in Rwanda Civil Society Platform (RCSP) that works under the Ministry of Agriculture. This project will develop the district in different ways especially through providing employment opportunities.
“Most people have got employment making terraces and get paid Rwf1500 daily” says Telesphole Ngarukiye. “This project will help in the covering up some of the mining grounds that having become into dangerous pits.”
